PSG confirm Marquinhos will miss Newcastle United tie

Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos (29) has been ruled out of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture against Newcastle United, the club have confirmed

PSG released a medical update on Thursday, which revealed that Marquinhos is set to be out for 10 days with a hamstring injury, which he suffered whilst on international duty. “It will be difficult [to play against Monaco on Friday],” said the centre-back, who captained Brazil during their 1-0 defeat to Argentina.

Marquinhos added that he had hoped to be back “as soon as possible,” however, he will miss the games against AS Monaco, Newcastle and Le Havre AC. He could make his return against FC Nantes on 9th December or against Borussia Dortmund just four days later.

It is a blow for Les Parisiens who are currently second in the Champions League group, one point behind leaders Dortmund and one point ahead of AC Milan. Danilo Pereira will likely start in Marquinhos’ absence at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night. Presnel Kimpembe is nearing a long-awaited return, but the Frenchman will not be fit enough to face Newcastle.
