Marseille looking to make ‘more than double’ what they paid Arsenal for Mattéo Guendouzi

According to L’Équipe‘s long-read on transfers to watch out for this summer, Marseille are intending to make a big profit on midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi in a revamp for the squad in the summer, which could also see departures for Cengiz Ünder and Leonardo Balerdi.

The 24-year-old French international, whose contract runs until June 2025, was signed from Arsenal for €12 million just a year ago, but Marseille are reportedly hoping to receive more than double that amount this summer.

Despite a decline in playing time, Guendouzi still has admirers in England, with several clubs following the player.

While West Ham and Newcastle are possible destinations, Aston Villa are reportedly the most likely candidate to acquire him, aided by the fact that the club had expressed interest in the former Lorient player in January.

The Villans, currently fifth in the Premier League, have positioned themselves as candidates for a place in European competition. This should go a long to to convincing Guendouzi to make the move, especially since he played under Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, at Arsenal from 2018 to November 2019.
