Tensions rise as PSG ownership frustrated by Marseille loss

Foot Mercato report this afternoon that the Paris Saint-Germain Qatari ownership are particularly displeased in the wake of the team’s Coupe de France defeat to Marseille last night.

The result means PSG have been knocked out of the domestic cup at the last 16 stage for the second year in a row, and has increased concern ahead of the Champions League knockout tie against Bayern Munich.

The Doha deciders were reportedly convinced that the arrival of Luís Campos as sporting advisor would mark a new era for the club, with the Portuguese director’s eye for talent and squad-building talents raising expectations. As a result, Campos was able to convince them to bring in Christophe Galtier – but they are still “dreaming” of bringing in Zinédine Zidane.

The lack of arrivals in winter as well as the underwhelming performances of the summer recruits could also be held against Campos. Tensions are running high, and the upcoming season-defining month – matches against Monaco, Lille and Marseille again, as well as Bayern Munich – will undoubtedly have an impact on the decisions made at the end of the campaign.
