New date set for abandoned Marseille-Lyon fixture

The LFP have announced that the abandoned match between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais will be replayed on Wednesday 6th December (21:00, local time) at the Vélodrome.

The fixture was scheduled to be played on Sunday 29th October. However, Lyon’s team bus was attacked by Marseille fans en route to the Vélodrome. Manager Fabio Grosso was injured in the attack, suffering a facial injury just above the eye that required stitches. Lyon’s supporters were also attacked on their approach to the stadium and just minutes before the scheduled kick-off, the game was abandoned.

Despite the incidents, the rescheduled match will still take place at the Vélodrome and according to RMC Sport, fans will be allowed to attend the fixture. The LFP confirmed the decision to replay the match at the Vélodrome but has not confirmed the attendance of fans.

Lyon are still looking for their first win of the season. Grosso’s side currently sit bottom of Ligue 1 and are seven points away from safety.
