Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ruled out for Marseille’s Europa League trip to Athens

According to a report via L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (34) has been ruled out for the Ligue 1 side’s trip to Athens in the Europa League on Thursday evening (kick-off 21:00). The player reportedly pulled a hamstring during this morning’s training, and has not travelled with the rest of Gennaro Gattuso’s squad.

There has been no indication yet on the duration of Aubameyang’s unavailability, the former Chelsea & Arsenal having to undergo further examination to ascertain the gravity of the injury.  However, internally there is no worry about the long term absence of the striker, even if Aubameyang’s participation against Lens on Sunday seems compromised. The international break does come at a good time to let the striker recover.

Marseille will be without their European top-scorer on Thursday evening, after the Gabon international scored on four occasions since the beginning of Les Olympiens’ European campaign. The striker joins Azzedine Ounahi on the injury list, who is out of action due to a thigh injury.
