Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo: “It would be an honour to represent my country.”

Speaking ahead of OGC Nice’s UEFA Europa Conference League tie against Sheriff Tiraspol, Jean-Clair Tobido reflected on what a France call-up would mean to him.

Todibo was called up to the provisional France squad for the first time with Didier Deschamps set to name his squad for the Euro qualifiers against the Netherlands and Ireland on Thursday. The announcement of Les Bleus’ squad will come on Thursday afternoon, shortly before Les Aiglons’ Europa Conference League tie against Sheriff Tiraspol at the Allianz Riviera.

Obviously, I will follow the squad announcement,” said the Nice defender in a press conference attended by Get French Football NewsResponding to a question from GFFN’s Luke Entwistle, Todibo added, “It would be an honour and a proud moment for me to represent my country, and to wear the tricolour. That’s what a call-up would mean to me. The journey has been long, and no doubt it will continue to be long. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

Todibo has got his career back on track since joining Nice, initially on loan and then permanently in 2021. After moving to Barcelona at a young age, the Toulouse academy product struggled and was subsequently loaned out to Schalke 04 and Benfica before settling on the French Riviera.

In the absence of Dante, it is expected that Todibo will captain Nice against Sheriff on Thursday, with the club looking to protect their one-goal advantage from the first leg and progress.
