Montpellier’s Elye Wahi favours Ligue 1 move

Speaking to France Bleu Hérault, Montpellier forward Elye Wahi (20) has revealed that he would favour a transfer to a rival Ligue 1 side.

Wahi has a contract that runs until 2025 but has attracted widespread interest after an impressive season in France’s top flight thus far. Despite Montpellier having struggled for large parts of the season, the French youth international has registered 10 goals in Ligue 1.

According to Téléfootclubs across Europe such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund have all registered an interest in Wahi, who is reportedly valued at €30m by Montpellier. However, Wahi has now revealed that his preference, should he leave Montpellier, would be to move to a Ligue 1 rival.

RMC Sport have previously revealed that OGC Nice and AS Monaco would be interested in Wahi, although the former signed FC Lorient’s Terem Moffi in the January transfer window, potentially ruling them out of signing another striker in the immediate future.

In an interview with France Bleu Hérault, transcribed by L’ÉquipeWahi was asked about his preferred move. The Frenchman replied, “Ligue 1. Why not? I have always said that I don’t want to skip stages and I want to go step by step. We’ll see what is offered, but as I’ve always said, I’m at Montpellier and I’m very happy here. We’ll see where the wind takes me.”
