Michel Platini sees no reason to replace Didier Deschamps as France boss

Speaking to RMC Sport, French football great Michel Platini sees no reason for current Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps to have left his post after the agonising 2022 World Cup final loss against Argentina. Deschamps, who has been in charge of the France’s national team since 2012, signed a four-year contract extension, keeping him in the dugout until the 2026 World Cup. Despite the way former French FA president Noël Le Graët single-handedly took care of Deschamps’ contract extension without his board’s agreement, Platini considers the two-time World Cup winner as “legitimate“.

The team is working well and their players are enjoying themselves. There is no reason to replace Didier, unless he wants to leave”, Platini said. The legendary France number 10 and Euro 1984 winner explained that he didn’t know whether Zinédine Zidane wished to manage Les Bleus. However, Platini would have loved to see the former Real Madrid boss take over Brazil’s national team. “It would have been wonderful to have a French coach heading the country of football. I would have travelled to Brazil to watch him train, at the Maracanã and everything.”
