According to Sebastien Denis of Foot Mercato, Lille’s Timothy Weah is looking for a move away from Les Nordistes. Since his impressive performances for the USA at the World Cup, Weah has not been deployed in his preferred position (as a right-winger) at Lille, playing further back on the defensive flanks on both the left and right-hand sides.
European clubs, such as Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach and La Liga’s Sevilla FC, have expressed their interest, though Les Dogues are adamant that the American will stay at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. With Jonathan Bamba and Adam Ounas sidelined with injuries, manager Paulo Fonseca prefers to keep his options open. Using Weah as a jack-of-all-trades may suit Fonseca, but the 22-year-old and his entourage seek playing time in more suitable positions. They are looking to engineer a move before the end of the current January transfer window.
Since 2017, the former PSG player has seven goals and seven assists across 75 appearances in the French top flight. He is out of contract in summer of 2024, but foreign interest may see him move well before that. To do so, the parties involved must convince LOSC’s robust president Olivier Létang, who may share Fonseca’s doubts over a lack of squad depth due to injuries.
