In order to fund research on cystic fibrosis, Brittany charity Muco29 will auction the jersey worn by Olivier Giroud on eBay, according to a report from Ouest-France.
The shirt was worn by the France forward during the quarter-final victory against England. That day, France’s all-time record goalscorer slammed home a 78th-minute winning header, following a whipped cross from Antoine Griezmann. Giroud gave France the lead back at Al-Bayt Stadium after Harry Kane cancelled Aurélien Tchouaméni’s opener.
The match-worn blue #9 jersey will be auctioned on eBay for only seven days. Last year, Muco29 collected €6,716 with the auction of Kylian Mbappé’s match-worn France jersey against Belgium in the Nations League semi-final. Since its inception in 1987, in Plouescat, Muco29 has collected more than €1m for research on cystic fibrosis. The charity then gives the money to Professor Claude Férec’s laboratory in Brest. “Guy Stephan, assistant coach of Les Bleus and the charity’s ambassador for eight years, spearheaded this,” explained Muco29 president Raymond Milin. “Guy is a man of his word, which is so rare these days. The value of a person is also measured by the happiness he gives to others,” he continued.
