Youssoufa Moukoko’s age called into question

Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko’s age has been called into question and Paulo Teixeira has now released a document, which states that the German international is 22 and not 18, as was first thought.

The document, posted on Twitter, shows a birth certificate for a person named Youssoufa Mohamadou, who according to Teixeira, is Borussia Dortmund striker Moukoko. The document attests to a person born in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé on 19th July 2000.

The revelation of the document comes after an investigation into the player’s age by the German press. Teixeira reports that upon arriving in Cameroon, Der Spiegel reporters came up against a wall of silence, however, a birth certificate, thought to be Moukoko’s, has now been obtained.

Moukoko arrived in Germany at the age of 14 and was already playing with Borussia Dortmund’s U19 side at the same age. He then made his Germany debut in the recent World Cup in Qatar. The outcome of the ongoing investigations could have ramifications for the future of the player, whose contract with the Bundesliga club expires this summer.
