Chelsea prepare new £75m offer for Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are preparing a new offer for Leicester City’s French centre-back Wesley Fofana having seen their advances rebuffed so far.

Chelsea’s new bid is likely to be around £75m but the Londoners are still deciding on an add-ons structure. Fofana wants to join Chelsea and was not included in Leicester’s squad last weekend for the loss to Southampton at the player’s request. Talks are continuing after Foot Mercato reported earlier this month that Leicester were now open to selling the 21-year-old defender, despite coach Brendan Rodgers seemingly ruling out his sale.

With Fofana still under contract for another five seasons, Leicester told Chelsea that they want €95m (or £80m) to sell the defender this summer, say the outlet, which could make him the most expensive central defender of all time, beating Harry Maguire’s €87m move to Manchester United, also from Leicester. Fofana, meanwhile, has already agreed personal terms with the London club and seemingly signalled his discomfort in being forced to stay via social media at the start of the month. Le Parisien, meanwhile, have reported that two Chelsea bids worth €75m and €82m respectively have already been rejected by the Foxes.

Fofana has only played 52 games in all competitions for Leicester since his €35m move from Saint-Etienne in 2020 after he missed much of last season with a broken leg but, despite never being capped at senior level, he’s hoping a move to Chelsea could help him stake a claim for France’s World Cup squad ahead of the tournament in Qatar this November.
