They’ve never won the competition. The Paris giants are throwing plenty of money at the pursuit of the trophy, and after heartbreak in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, could this be their year?

Champions League odds are always interesting to follow, and PSG are pretty good value. Many bookmakers have them as the fifth favorite, so if you are looking for a way to wager your sportsbook bonuses in Louisiana, then a bet on PSG winning the tournament might get you a high potential return.

Could it be PSG’s year?

There is no denying that there is going to be some tough competition if PSG are going to win the world’s most prestigious club tournament, and they’ll be covering new ground in the process, having never managed a win before.

They continue to become stronger

A lot has been made of the improvements the French title holders have made to their squad, but they may not be done just yet. There are rumors that they may still add more, and Tanguy Ndombele seems high on the shopping list, though this seems to have hit a roadblock. This kind of signing could give the Paris club a lot more strength, and the sort of talent on the bench that might push them over the line when it comes to continental competitions.

The club made some impressive signings, including the experienced Sergio Ramos and the impressive goalkeeping talent of Gianluigi Donnarumma, both on free transfers. These are two players who add depth as well as experience in Europe’s greatest competition.

Champions League experience

It is impossible to ignore the fact that Lionel Messi is now a PSG player. This is an individual who has won pretty much everything at club level, and his Champions League experience is bound to be invaluable. Gini Wijnaldum is another player with excellent experience who has been added recently. He’s out of favor at the moment, but who knows what will happen by the time the Champions League final rolls around.

Of course, the experience of Sergio Ramos cannot be understated and while he has struggled for fitness, he is a vital cog in the team.

Following recent cup runs from PSG, some of the existing squad have gained some experience, too.

A good time to play Real Madrid?

The upcoming fixture against the Spanish giants is bound to be a huge challenge. There’s never really a great time to play Real Madrid, but there is also an argument that the Spanish team aren’t the force they once were.

Madrid could face a race against time to get star striker Karim Benzema fit, as he suffered a recent hamstring injury. The extent of this injury is not yet known, but even if he is available, it is possible that he may not be playing at 100%.

In some well-documented issues, Real Madrid have been left with fewer superstars in their team, and as PSG are going to have to face them some time, the next round is as good as any. Real Madrid are less fancied by the bookmakers, with longer odds than Paris Saint Germain, which tells you all you need to know about the chances they have in this year’s tournament. You should never totally write them off, though.

Ligue 1 sewn up?

Many clubs playing in the latter stages of European competitions this season will need to fire on all cylinders while still trying to win their domestic competitions. Actually, the chances of PSG not winning Ligue 1 are virtually nil. Stranger things have happened, but the way the table looks currently, it seems that the current holders will keep their title – at a canter. This means that the squad can stay fresh and focus on the Champions League. European competition is likely to take priority.

It is dangerous to assume that the league is won, but the chances of Paris not finishing the job are incredibly slim.

Summary – is this their year?

It’s impossible to say whether or not this could be the year PSG finally go the distance. The other squads can’t be ignored, and Manchester City, in particular, are in imperious form, but they are also still searching for their first win in recent history.

PSG are still perceived as outsiders in the race to the Champions League, but their high-profile signings could perhaps push them to the championship win.
