Adi Hütter confirms Monaco looking to sell Gelson Martins

Speaking to Nice-MatinAS Monaco manager Adi Hütter revealed that the club are looking to sell Portuguese winger Gelson Martins (28).

Martins is yet to feature for Les Monégasques this season, and the Portuguese winger, who signed from Atletico Madrid for a €30m fee back in 2019, isn’t even training with the first team. It has been clear for some time that he no longer features in Monaco’s plans, and Hütter has now confirmed this fact, although he revealed that he was not involved in the decision.

It was never my decision. It is an agreement between the club, Thiago (Scuro) and Gelson. I like the player, but we have to trim the squad. He knows that he has to leave the club,” said the Austrian manager, who has guided Monaco to the top of Ligue 1.

However, Hütter has stated that he does not want to work with a 28-man squad, especially given that the club are not competing in European competition this season. Martins’ options will be limited, however. Few transfer markets remain open, with perhaps his most likely destination, Qatar, closing its window on 18th September.
