Frane Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra has revealed that Olympique Lyonnais fans will be banned from travelling for the rearranged match against Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday 6th December.
The match was initially scheduled to take place on Sunday 29th October. However, the game ultimately did not go ahead. Lyon’s team bus was attacked en route to the Vélodrome by Marseille fans. Projectiles thrown at the bus smashed the window next to manager Fabio Grosso. The Italian manager suffered a significant facial injury, which required 12 stitches, whilst Lyon’s other six buses, which were carrying fans to the match, were also attacked. Whilst OL’s fans did make it into the stadium, the game was postponed just minutes before the scheduled kick-off.
The LFP announced on Wednesday that the match has been rescheduled for 6th December and will take place at the Vélodrome. According to RMC Sport, OM fans will be allowed to attend the event, despite the incidents in late October. However, Oudéa-Castéra confirmed on Friday that Lyon fans will be banned from attending. “For me, the damage has been done. When there is a ban on supporters travelling, as will be the case on 6th December, sharing loses,” said the Sports Minister in an interview, transcribed by RMC Sport. She added that the decision to replay the tie at the Vélodrome was the “least bad option.”
