Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku set to make long-awaited return

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Christopher Nkunku (26) will be included in Chelsea’s matchday squad against Sheffield United. The France international is yet to make an appearance in an official match for the Premier League side since his summer move from RB Leipzig.

Nkunku suffered a knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund. Whilst the quality of the pitch was derided at the time, Pochettino stated that the injury was simply “bad luck“.

However, speaking in a press conference on Friday, Chelsea manager Pochettino confirmed that Nkunku is set to make his long-awaited return.

Malo Gusto also nearing Chelsea return

He can be involved. It’s very good news. We need to be calm and quiet. It’s going to put all the pressure on him. He needs to evolve, and know the Premier League,” said the Argentinian manager in a pre-match press conference, transcribed by Fabrizio Romano.

Nkunku’s compatriot, Malo Gusto (20), is also nearing a return. The full-back has returned to first-team training, although it is unclear whether he will be fit enough to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday.
