Al Hilal submit world-record bid to sign PSG’s Kylian Mbappé

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal have submitted a world-record bid to Paris Saint-Germain for Kylian Mbappé (24), thought to be worth approximately €300m.

Mbappé has been omitted from PSG’s travelling squad for the club’s tour of Japan and South Korea. Earlier in the summer, the France captain sent the club’s hierarchy a letter, informing them that he won’t be triggering the one-year extension in his contract. Consequently, PSG have been left with a choice: sell him this summer, or risk losing him on a free.

Mbappé doesn’t want to extend, but nor does he want to leave this summer, creating something of an impasse in the ongoing saga. PSG believe that Mbappé already has a pre-contract agreement to join Real Madrid in 2024. Le Parisien reported over the weekend that PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi reached out to Mbappé to encourage him to listen to offers this summer. Chelsea, as well as Saudi clubs, have been linked with a move for the forward.

Romano is now reporting that a formal offer has now arrived for Mbappé. The Italian journalist reports that the offer is worth around €300m, however, there are currently no talks on the player’s side. Whilst the offer may be welcomed by PSG, who are determined not to lose Mbappé on a free transfer, it remains to be seen whether the advances will be welcomed by the France captain, who is already rumoured to have agreed a move to the Spanish capital next summer.

According to L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi, PSG are waiting until 31st July before advancing any deal. This is the deadline set by the club, to Mbappé, to trigger the one-year extension included in his contract.
