‘I hope it will get my adventure at Marseille up and running’ – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his hat-trick against Ajax

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (34) has said that he hopes that his hat-trick against Ajax will kickstart his Olympique de Marseille career.

The Gabonese striker has struggled since his summer arrival from Chelsea, especially in domestic competition. His only goal in 12 Ligue 1 games came against Le Havre AC and his performances have elicited boos from the Vélodrome crowd. However, Aubameyang has been in good form in European competition, scoring twice in OM’s unsuccessful UEFA Champions League qualification campaign.

After his hat-trick against Ajax, which keeps Marseille at the top of their UEFA Europa League group, Aubameyangnow has five goals in four games in the competition, and he is hoping that his performance against the Eredivisie side will be the catalyst to spark a much-welcome return to form.

‘We will play a final against Brighton’

– Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

I hope this hat-trick will get my adventure at Marseille up and running. I want to thank my teammates for their support,” Aubameyang told RMC Sport post-match.

The 4-3 victory, secured in the dying moments on Thursday night, means that Marseille head into the final round of games top of the group. In the final round of matches in a fortnight’s time, Les Phocéens will head to second-placed Brighton knowing that a draw will be enough to see them top the group. “We will play a final against Brighton,” said Aubameyang, whose individual exploit has put his club in a strong position.
