Kylian Mbappé becomes PSG’s all-time record goalscorer in Ligue 1

Free-scoring French forward Kylian Mbappé has become PSG’s all-time record goalscorer in Ligue 1, overtaking Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani’s tally of 138 goals. Mbappé opened the scoring against Lens on Saturday night, in what was a season-defining Ligue 1 showdown between the league leaders and the second-placed Artois side. The Christophe Galtier-led outfit eventually won 3-1 to go nine points clear at the top.

The Paris-born prodigy has found the back of the net 139 times in Ligue 1 with PSG. His first goal in the French top-flight with Les Parisiens was against Metz, in September 2017. In total, including his break-out years in Monaco, Mbappé has scored a whopping 155 goals in the French top flight, at only 24.

Mbappé also moved up to first place in this season’s goalscoring leaderboard with 20 strikes, pulling ahead of Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Lille’s Jonathan David. He is the first Ligue 1 player since Lacazette to reach the 20-goals mark three seasons in a row. Mbappé is also the first Ligue 1 player since Pauleta to score 20 goals across four seasons.
