Jean-Michel Aulas takes a swipe at new Lyon CEO Santiago Cucci and asks for “a bit of respect”

Lyon’s former president Jean-Michel Aulas is currently making a habit of taking digs left and right at the club’s new executives, namely OL owner and Eagle Football boss John Textor and now Lyon CEO Santiago Cucci. Aulas was ousted as president at the end of last season.

At the start of the month, Les Gones were hit by a sanction from the DNCG – Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion, French football’s financial watchdog – with the monitoring of their transfer activity and wage bill. The club’s appeal before the French FA proved unsuccessful. Aulas candidly retorted that he was never worried by the financial authority during his 36-year stay at the helm of OL.

Now, using his favourite channel of communication – his personal Twitter account – Aulas has taken a swipe at Cucci. The Lyon interim CEO said to L’Équipe in an interview that “they have to make do with what Aulas left and be smart to build from that.” The 74-year-old boss did not let this slide. “A bit of respect pls: 76 titles with the teams of our Olympique Lyonnais. I’d love to help you because, with my 9% share of the club, I remain the second [biggest] shareholder of OL Group and I, more than anyone else, have interest in getting very good results. Go OL.
