‘We should have won 3 or 4-0’ – Monaco’s Adi Hütter reacts to Lyon defeat

AS Monaco manager believes that Olympique Lyonnais were unworthy of their victory (1-0) on Friday night. In a post-match interview with Prime Video Sport, the Austrian manager said that his side deserved to win “3 or 4-0″ before criticising Les Monégasques’ lack of finishing touch in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.

How do you analyse the defeat tonight? Lyon’s winner seemed to come against the run of play…

Sometimes the team that deserves the victory doesn’t win. That’s part of football. It was a hard result for us this evening because we had so many chances to score, and we didn’t. I think Lyon only had one chance in the second half and they scored. There was a huge disparity between Lyon and ourselves tonight. Everyone is disappointed with this result.

How do you analyse Lyon’s goal? Was it a collective error?

They did really well in this attack. They played the ball around well in this situation and we didn’t defend so well. The biggest issue tonight was that we had so many chances. We had good chances at the end of the first half and in the second half.

MATCH REPORT: Monaco 0-1 Lyon

Lyon defended in a low block. We had six or seven chances, 14 to four in terms of shots on target as well. We missed lots of big chances. When you score the first goal, it gets much much easier. It’s really hard for us to lose this game today.

How do you analyse Monaco’s last five matches? Are the team in a poor patch of form?

I think every team, over the course of the season, will struggle a bit at one point. At the beginning of the season, we had a really good run, but the opponents have analysed us. They aren’t blind. I had much more of a problem when we don’t create chances when we don’t have ideas of how to create chances, or when we’re defending really poorly, but this isn’t the issue. When you create seven of eight chances, you have to score. If we had won 3-0, everyone would have been happy.  Sometimes the better team doesn’t win, and this is what happened tonight, but congratulations to Lyon. They defended well, but AS Monaco deserved the three points.
