Monaco in discussions over Eliesse Ben Seghir contract renewal

AS Monaco have opened negotiations over a contract renewal for academy product Eliesse Ben Seghir (18), whose current contract expires in June 2025, according to Foot Mercato

Ben Seghir burst onto the scene post-World Cup last season, netting a brace against AJ Auxerre before consolidating his place in Philippe Clement’s starting XI. He looked to have the trust of new manager Adi Hütter in pre-season, and with the Austrian opting to play two No.10s, the  Diagonale academy product looked set to once again feature prominently.

However, injuries have thus far derailed his season. Having missed the opening matches with a muscular injury, Ben Seghir worked his way back to fitness in October but then suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury, which required surgery. He is expected to return in early 2024.

Despite his lack of playing time this season, Monaco still clearly rate him very highly. The beginning of negotiations over a contract renewal evidence that. According to Foot Mercato, these talks over a renewal are on the right path.
