Rennes predicted XI v Monaco: Nemanja Matić misses out through suspension

Rennes will host AS Monaco this Saturday afternoon at Roazhon Park for Julien Stéphan’s third Ligue 1 game in charge of Les Bretons. The Stade Rennais manager won’t be able to rely on experienced Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matić against Les Monégasques.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United man has been given a 1-game suspension for receiving three bookings in as little as four Ligue 1 games. It is the second time Matić has already missed out through suspension since his arrival on the Vilaine banks from AS Roma. Cameroon international centre-back Christopher Wooh won’t feature as well against Adi Hütter’s side after being given his marching orders at Marseille last Sunday.

Stéphan is expected to stick to his 3-4-3 set-up on Saturday. Belgian international centre-back Arthur Theate was a doubt after limping off the Vélodrome pitch last Sunday, but he is part of the matchday squad. French midfielder Baptiste Santamaria, who reportedly caught the eye of bottom boys Olympique Lyonnais, is poised to start in Matić’s absence.

Rennes likely lineup v Monaco

Steve Mandanda; Lorenz Assignon, Warmed Omari, Arthur Theate; Benjamin Bourigeaud, Baptiste Santamaria, Enzo Le Fée, Adrien Truffert; Amine Gouiri, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Martin Terrier.
