Monaco have 2 points deducted for next season

AS Monaco will start next season two points behind the rest of the Ligue 1 field, following the LFP’s decision to sanction them for unsavoury incidents which occurred during immediately after a match against Le Mans in Ligue 2 last season.

The LFP’s official statement translated here:

Monaco fans used pyrotechnical devices, failure to respect the rule regarding the ban on entering the football pitch, extreme brutality towards the referee by a fan who entered the field of play.

Having convened on the 23rd of May 2013, the LFP has decided to act after the gravity of the incidents. After discussions and meetings with representatives from Monaco, the LFP has decided that the club will play one match behind closed doors and will be docked 2 points at the start of next season, with the possibility of a further point being docked should Monaco reoffend.

Monaco have today (28/6/13) released an official statement in response to the LFP’s ruling:

‘This ruling seems severe compared to with the good work the club has done with years gone by, with the best organisation of matches at home and complete respect for any professionals on the playing field, player or referee.’

‘The club is waiting to decided the decision and will foresee to submit an interjection against the decision.’
