Monaco predicted XI v Clermont: Wissam Ben Yedder to start?

Despite facing charges of rape, AS Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder (33) may still start up front against Clermont Foot on Sunday. Adi Hütter revealed during Friday’s pre-match press conference that Ben Yedder would captain and start in the club’s Ligue 1 opener, but that came before news broke of the charges.

Should he not start, it is likely that Kevin Volland would take his place. Breel Embolo isn’t in contention, and won’t be for many months following an ACL injury in pre-season. Options have been depleted elsewhere. Eliesse Ben Seghir has a hamstring issue, Edan Diop has an issue with his foot, and new signing Mohammed Salisu is not yet operational.

Monaco will therefore line up with a youthful and inexperienced defence of Soungoutou Magassa, Guillermo Maripán and Chrislain Matsima. Despite links with a move away, Youssuof Fofana looks set to start in midfield.

Monaco likely lineup v Clermont

Philipp Köhn – Soungoutou Magassa, Guillermo Maripán, Chrislain Matsima – Caio Henrique, Youssouf Fofana, Mohamed Camara, Vanderson – Aleksandr Golovin, Wissam Ben Yedder, Maghnes Akliouche.
