Nice Public Prosecutor won’t contest Christophe Galtier acquittal

After a hearing in mid-December, former OGC Nice and Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier was acquitted of allegations of moral harassment and ethnic, racial or religious discrimination. Whilst the Nice Public Prosecutor requested a one-year suspended prison sentence, a €45,000 fine and a guilty verdict, Galtier was acquitted on 21st December. That decision is now final with the Nice Public Prosecutor announcing that it will not challenge the verdict.

Damien Martinelli, Nice’s Public Prosecutor, has told Nice-Matin that the judgement would not be contested. It brings an end to an affair that began back in April when an email from former colleague and Nice sporting director Julien Fournier, containing allegations of racism, was leaked. A full transcript of the email can be read here

It remains to be seen whether Galtier will initiate his own proceedings against Romain Molina and RMC Sport’s Daniel Riolo, who began the affair when they released the leaked email. Whilst Galtier’s entourage are yet to make a decision on this, the likelihood is that no attempts will be made to re-initiate proceedings.
