Mattéo Guendouzi says he received a warmer welcome at Lazio than at Arsenal

Speaking to Il MessaggeroFrance international midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi (24) has said that he received a warmer welcome at Lazio than he did at Arsenal.

Guendouzi made the move to the Italian capital in the summer. The France international had been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League, however, that didn’t take form. Olympique de Marseille were keen to cash in on the midfielder, who had slowly fallen down the pecking order under Igor Tudor, having been a regular in the starting XI for much of the season.

Guendouzi joined Les Phocéens from Arsenal, initially on loan and then on a permanent deal in the summer of 2022. The Frenchman, who had joined the Gunners in 2018 from FC Lorient as a youngster, failed to consolidate a first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium, despite featuring 82 times for the club.

Guendouzi has now featured 12 times for Lazio, and he has said that he received a warmer welcome in the Italian capital than he did in London. “The fans’ passion in this city is amazing. I was welcomed warmly, like in Marseille, but more than at Arsenal. I will pay them (Lazio fans) back with interest,” said Guendouzi.
