Left-wingback and experienced midfielder top priorities for RC Lens

According to Foot Mercato, RC Lens want to sign a left-wingback and an experienced midfielder during the upcoming winter transfer window. The club is currently standing in seventh place in the Ligue 1 table, and will be aiming to readjust their squad for the second half of the season.

The need for a new midfielder is linked to the future departure of midfield duo Salis Abdul Samed (23) and Nampalys Mendy (31), who will both probably be leaving to participate in the African Cup of Nations, with Ghana and Senegal respectively. Lens will still have the likes of Neil El Aynaoui (22) and Andy Diouf (20) within their midfield ranks but will be looking to sign an experienced player to accompany one of the two in the starting XI.

Souleyman Doumbia and Bruno Onyemaechi among Lens left-wingback targets

The club will also be looking to sign a new left-wingback, following Deiver Machado’s (30) adductor injury which will keep him away from the pitch for at least a couple of months. Przemyslaw Frankowski (28) has been replacing him, though he usually plays on the other flank, while Franck Haise is visibly not satisfied with loanee Faitout Maouassa (25), who has only made one appearance off of the bench this season.

Boavista FC’s Bruno Onyemaechi (24) is one of the reported wingback targets, though the player may also be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, which would deter Lens’ interest in him. The other player is ex-Angers left-back Souleyman Doumbia (27), who stands out due to his rapid pace down the flank and has the benefit of being a free agent.
