Toulouse FC retain their confidence in manager Carles Martinez Novell, despite the club lurking perilously just above the relegation zone.
The decision to sack Philippe Montanier and replace him with assistant manager Martinez Novell was perceived as a harsh one at the time, and it is a decision that has not necessarily paid dividends in the first half of the season. Le TéFéCé sit 16th in Ligue 1 and currently occupy the relegation play-off spot, however, they did progress from their UEFA Europa League group.
However, whilst Damien Comolli said that the first half of the season has fallen “below expectations”, he still retains faith in the inexperienced Spanish manager. Martinez Novell is well-liked internally and the manager himself is therefore not concerned about his position, according to L’Équipe.
Comolli isn’t concerned either, stating that he believes the club is on a “positive trajectory”.Martinez Novell’s role is therefore unthreatened, despite performances. The Spaniard does, however, face a considerable task in the second half of the season, in leading the club away from relegation trouble.
