Ligue 2 defender Donatien Gomis refuses to partake in anti-homophobia campaign

Guingamp defender Donatien Gomis has declined to participate in the anti-homophobia campaign organised by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 this weekend.

Last season, Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye, then playing for Paris Saint-Germain, sparked controversy by refusing to take part in the day against homophobia organised by French professional football.

This year, his compatriot Donatien Gomis has made the same decision regarding the initiative, which involves players wearing shirts with coloured logos. Gomis’ club, EA Guingamp, currently positioned 11th in Ligue 2, confirmed this information as reported by Le Télégramme.

“Donatien Gomis has expressed his choice not to wear this jersey. We have taken note of it,” stated Fred Le Grand, the club’s president. Consequently, the 28-year-old central defender will not participate in the match of the 35th round of Ligue 2 against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard this Saturday.

He was not included in the squad announced on Friday by coach Stéphane Dumont.
