Laval secure Ligue 2 safety thanks to 93rd minute game-winning goal at Amiens

Laval have pulled off a last-minute miracle to secure their Ligue 2 status for next season. Les Tango were drawing 1-1 away at Amiens in the dying minutes of the game and on the brink of a return to National 1. Enter El-Hadji Pape Diaw (28). The Rukh Lviv loanee stepped up to score a game-winning header in the last kick of the game, on the 93rd minute. The centre-back’s goal proved massive for the Mayenne side who, as a consequence, leapfrogged Valenciennes and Annecy at the buzzer.

The Savoy side, who eliminated Marseille in the Coupe de France quarter-finals, lost to Paris FC last Friday night. They are 16th and, as of now, safe. But their survival is now out of their hands following the suspension and cancellation of the Bordeaux vs Rodez game. Rodez are 17th and currently in the drop zone. But RAF were leading 1-0 against Les Girondins when their goal-scorer was assaulted by a Bordeaux fan. The league authorities will convene on Monday to adjudicate on the game’s result. Rodez are likely to be be declared winners. Should that be the case, they would be safe and Annecy would join Niort, Nîmes and Dijon in the third tier.
