Champagne on ice: Lens delay PSG’s Ligue 1 title celebrations

RC Lens delayed Paris Saint-Germain’s title celebrations after coming from behind to beat FC Lorient at Le Moustoir on Sunday.

An upset was on the cards early on as Romain Faivre opened the scoring for Les Merlus. However, Florian Sotoca levelled the scores less than 15 minutes later. Le Sang et Or then took the lead soon after through Adrien Thomasson before Seko Fofana rounded off the scoring late on.

The victory means that PSG can’t win the Ligue 1 title today. Had Lens dropped points, Les Parisiens could have wrapped up their second consecutive domestic title with victory over AJ Auxerre tonight. Should Christophe Galtier’s side beat the relegation-struggling side tonight, they will re-establish their six-point gap at the top with just two games left.

PSG also have a considerably better goal difference than Franck Haise’s side (15 points), meaning that whilst the title can’t be wrapped up with victory on Sunday night, it will be all but ensured should Les Parisiens win.
