The 26-year-old had been allowed to take part in the tournament qualifiers during his time off. However, the French overseas region then made it to the tournament proper – in their Group D campaign, they notably held Canada to a draw and beat Cuba 4-1.

The second-tier French club have explained to L’Équipe that although the Gold Cup is indeed an official competition, the Guadeloupe team is not recognised by FIFA. The club had asked Tell and Matthias Phaëton (who has since been sold to CSKA Sofia) to return in time for the start of pre-season, which both refused to do.

Tell, who scored four goals last season and recently renewed his contract, has since seen his contract terminated. Grenoble’s general manager Max Marty has explained that the club had sent Tell two emails and spoke to him over a call, but that “he considered Guadeloupe to be above his work contract. The club’s position is very clear, we can’t allow everything, players can’t be absent when it suits them, whether the competition interests them or not – especially when it’s not compulsory”.

Tell has received the support of the French players’ union and is considering taking Grenoble to court. He is now a free agent, and has already attracted interest from other Ligue 2 clubs.

Official | Matthias Phaëton leaves Guingamp for Grenoble https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/official-matthias-phaeton-leaves-guingamp-for-grenoble/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/official-matthias-phaeton-leaves-guingamp-for-grenoble/#respond Thu, 30 Jun 2022 10:30:31 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=90559 Guingamp have announced the sale of forward Matthias Phaëton to fellow Ligue 2 side Grenoble, with the Guadeloupe international signing a three-year contract with the south-eastern team.

Phaëton, who was under contract under the end of the 2023/24 season, leaves Guingamp three and a half years after arriving from the Brest academy. In total, he will have made 55 appearances and scored 6 goals for the club.

This season’s Ligue 2 campaign saw the wide man register one goal and one assist over the course of his 22 appearances, as the team came one spot short of making it into the Ligue 1 promotion play-offs with a sixth-place finish.

L’Équipe have indicated that although the transfer fee has not been disclosed, the move does include a sell-on clause in the Brittany side’s favour. Phaëton becomes Grenoble’s third signing of the summer, after the arrivals of Amine Sbaï and Pape Meïssa Ba from Sète and Red Star respectively.

Bilal Brahimi (22) is set to leave Dunkerque with Caen in advanced talks https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/bilal-brahimi-22-is-set-to-leave-dunkerque-with-caen-in-advanced-talks/ https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/bilal-brahimi-22-is-set-to-leave-dunkerque-with-caen-in-advanced-talks/#respond Wed, 22 Jun 2022 16:45:06 +0000 https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/?p=89844 According to RMC Sport’s Loïc Tanzi Bilal Brahimi (22) is set to leave Dunkerque this summer, a year after joining the club. Caen are in advanced talks for the left winger but Saint-Étienne, Grenoble, and two Belgian clubs are interesting in signing the young winger – whose contract runs until 2024.

Joining on a free from Le Havre’s reserves, last season showed promise in Ligue 2 for the left-footed winger / attacking midfielder with 3 goals and 3 assists over 36 appearances in what could be considered a breakthrough year for the young 22-year old.

USL Dunkerque are preparing for life in the National 1 after being relegated from Ligue 2 last season, finishing 19th with 31 points – which finishes the Northern French side’s two year stay in the second tier. Many of USL’s players will be looking to move on from the club, with National 1 being a semi-professional league and a lot of interest, especially for Brahimi, from first and second tier clubs.

Lorient and Clermont are particularly keen on the player, say the outlet, who has another year left to run on his current deal. Interest in Gaspar also extends overseas.

Having finished 4th in the second tier last season, making the promotion play-offs, Jacobacci’s Grenoble have fallen to 15th this season and are currently just two points off the bottom three.

Grenoble have suffered four losses in a row including a 4-1 battering by mid-table Amiens at the weekend and an embarrassing defeat to fourth-tier Andrézieux in the Coupe de France at the end of last month.

Jacobacci’s assistant Frédéric Gueguen will take over the coaching of the first team until a new manager is found with former Le Havre and Amiens coach Oswald Tanchot an early front runner to replace the 58-year-old Swiss who took over from Philippe Hinschberger in the summer.
